As we move into March, I sincerely hope that the winter weather plaguing the rest of the country begins to improve and that our pleasant 72-degree temperature remains as it is.
This is an exciting time to be in Fort Bend County. Wildflowers are blooming and there are a host of festivals and other fun outdoor activities to enjoy.
March also marks the start of Women’s History Month. Here in Fort Bend County, women’s contributions will be explored and celebrated through activities such as art shows, panels and tours.
Women’s History Month is observed in the U.S., the United Kingdom and Australia, corresponding with International Women’s Day, which is observed globally on March 8. Each year, a specific theme is chosen to guide the day's activities and events. The theme of International Women's Day in 2023 is: "Embrace equity."
The term "equity" refers to the fair and just distribution of resources and opportunities.
Equality means treating everyone the same, regardless of their differences. Equity means recognizing that we do not all start from the same place, taking imbalances into account and creating a level playing field.
